Alice Wagner works creatively and strategically with communication, collaborating closely with partners such as strategists, photographers, illustrators, copywriters, web developers, and printers. Her vision is to create meaningful experiences and impactful communication that resonate deeply.
What?
I have had the pleasure of working with Alice Wagner on many different projects, but this particular one stood out because it was for her own use. As a true adventurer, she travels far and wide in her big California Camper, and I had the honor of creating an illustration to decorate the vehicle. Later, I was asked to re-create an animated version of the illustration for her website.
Her brand is based on herself, reflecting her personality and slightly eccentric approach to life. With values like "stay creative," "have fun," and "be tough," she aims to integrate her personal philosophy into her professional work. She does this by placing the brand's values into visual contexts that are completely different from her professional activities. Her idea was to create a large compilation illustration showcasing a variety of fun elements that truly reflect who Alice Wagner is.
How?
I was given a list of about 13 specific items for the compilation image and I was asked to design an illustration style that was a bit cool and crazy, playing with proportions without appearing childish. Based on this, I created an edgy line art style with playful shapes, and then added hatch shading to give it depth and break up the different elements.
One of the motifs is based on a real photo of Alice riding a longboard in high heels while holding balloons. Because this photo left a lasting impression, I decided to make it the centerpiece of the illustration and began the sketching process with this motif. Once that was in place, I worked outward, creating the surrounding elements. The entire illustration was laid out and customized to fit the vehicle.
